2022 Jeep Gladiator
The 2022 Jeep Gladiator is a highly capable and desirable truck, but it demands a proactive approach to maintenance and a keen eye for its specific quirks. While offering unparalleled off-road prowess and utility, be prepared for potential electrical gremlins and steering component concerns that are characteristic of the platform. This vehicle is a strong performer for those who embrace its unique nature and are willing to invest in its upkeep.
Why this year scores low
Owners frequently report Uconnect system freezes, unresponsive screens, erratic sensor readings, and phantom warning lights. Software updates can help, but hardware failures are not unheard of. Battery drains are also occasionally cited.
While improved over older Wranglers, the 'Death Wobble' phenomenon (violent shaking of the steering wheel at highway speeds) can still occur. Steering gear failures, premature tie rod wear, and general looseness in the steering system are also reported, often exacerbated by off-road use.
The 8-speed automatic transmission can exhibit occasional harsh shifts or hesitation, often resolved with software updates (TSB-related). Engine Start/Stop (ESS) system malfunctions are common, and various engine sensor failures (e.g., O2 sensors, coolant temperature sensors) can lead to check engine lights.
